    If you plan to stay in Vietnam for a long time, the best option is to obtain a lifetime license. This way, you will not need to process or renew your license every 1-2 years. In case there are any changes in your work and you are unable to renew your Temporary Residence Card on time, you will not need to worry about being unable to ride your bike due to an expired license.

If you have a car or motorbike license from your home country and want to convert it to a Vietnamese license, you can apply for a temporary license (which will expire according to your TRC or your home country license).

    But if you already have a car license from your home country, you can get a lifetime A1/A license by only taking the practical test, NO THEORY TEST!

    If you don’t have an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country and would like to obtain one in Vietnam, you can convert it from your Vietnamese driving license. The IDP will be valid for 3 years if your Vietnamese driving license is lifetime. Otherwise, it will expire the same as your Vietnamese driving license/ TRC.
